Chilly Beach Movie "The World is Hot Enough" Available Nationwide on DVD
Sudbury, January 29, 2008 — Following three seasons as a hit television series, March Entertainment is releasing its long-awaited Chilly Beach movie on DVD.
The animated film, dubbed Chilly Beach: The World is Hot Enough, will be distributed nationwide by Vivendi Visual Entertainment Canada/DEP Entertainment starting February 5. The DVD will be available at retailers nationwide, including HMV.
The movie begins when beer-swilling hosers Dale and Frank manage to build a climate-altering device in the naïve hope of attracting tourists to their sub-arctic hometown. But once the U.S. Secret Service discovers their plans, it leads them into a veritable buttload of trouble — not the least of which, the planet's imminent destruction.
"If this Hollywood writers' strike continues, I believe this movie will be the greatest motion picture event of the year," said Dan Hawes, March Entertainment's president and executive producer.
"Solidarity, brothers and sisters!" added Hawes, showing his support for the striking writers.
The DVD is packed with bonus nuggets of Chilly Beach apocrypha so obscure, they were previously thought — and in some cases, hoped — to be gone forever.
Among the extras are deleted scenes from the cruder, "original" version of the movie, which has since been completely reanimated and revised. These relics from the Chilly Beach attic are a testament to Flash animation's evolution over the years.
Also included is a live-action mockumentary that takes viewers behind the scenes; the fan favourite episode, "15 Minutes of Lame"; and the original TV pilot of "Shut Your Space Hole," a clip so rare that Hawes claims it has never been seen by anyone — including some of its own animators.
Pressed further on this bizarre statement, Hawes explained, "We got a discount on blind animators, okay?"
Produced by Sudbury, Ontario's March Entertainment, Chilly Beach: The World is Hot Enough represents the first time a Canadian property has graduated from online "webisodes" into a Gemini-nominated network television show and from there, a feature film.
